Buccaneers Statement on Trading for Darrelle Revis

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today they have acquired All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets in exchange for their first-round pick (No. 13 overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft and a conditional selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Buccaneers and Revis have agreed to terms on a six-year contract.

Revis will be introduced at a press conference on Monday, April 22, at 12 noon ET at One Buccaneer Place.

Selected by the Jets in the first round (14th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft, Revis (5-11, 198) has started all 79 games in which he played, putting up career totals of 325 tackles, 102 passes defensed, 19 interceptions, with three returned for touchdowns, one sack, three forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. In postseason play, he has recorded six starts with 23 tackles, five passes defensed and two interceptions.

Revis is a four-time Pro Bowler, receiving consecutive selections following the 2008-11 seasons. He also received AP All-Pro honors for three consecutive seasons, 2009-11.

In 2009, Revis earned AFC Defensive Player of the Year and was runner-up for AP Defensive Player of the Year following a notable year in which he recorded 72 tackles, 34 passes defensed and six interceptions – tied for the most interceptions by any AFC cornerback. He started each of the Jets’ three playoff games that season, putting up nine tackles, three passes defensed and two interceptions.

While with New York, Revis anchored a secondary that developed into one of the best pass defenses in the NFL. In the period from 2007-12, the Jets ranked first in completion percentage allowed, second in passing yards allowed, second in passing touchdowns allowed and fourth in opponent passer rating.

A University of Pittsburgh product, Revis earned first-team All-Big East honors as a sophomore and junior before forgoing his senior season to declare for the NFL Draft. As a junior, he was also named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s top collegiate defensive back. He is a native of Aliquippa, Pa.
